Beyond Boundaries: Global Journeys of IIHS Students

From Howrah to Mauritius: The Global Rise of a Hospitality Professional

Meet Ravi Kumar Mahato — a young visionary who dared to step beyond borders

Some journeys begin with grand plans. Others begin with courage. Ravi’s story is a beautiful blend of both.

Ravi, a 20-year-old diploma student at IIHS Kolkata, has always had a natural inclination toward people — their joy, their needs, and the comfort that hospitality brings to their lives. But like many students his age, a clear path wasn’t visible at the beginning.

After completing his higher secondary education, Ravi was uncertain about where his future was headed… until he found inspiration at home. His elder brother, a successful chef in the industry, opened his eyes to a world full of possibilities — a world where passion becomes profession, and talent meets opportunity. That’s when Ravi decided to join IIHS Kolkata to pursue a Program in Luxury Hotel & Hospitality Operations. Today, he calls it the best decision of his life.

What he loves most about the institute is the balance it provides — faculty who are warm enough to support you, yet strict enough to shape you. Here, Ravi learned discipline, grooming, operational excellence, and most importantly — the essence of true hospitality.

But his most significant transformation didn’t happen in a classroom. It happened thousands of kilometers away — on the sun-drenched shores of Mauritius.

As part of his international internship, Ravi joined Long Beach Mauritius as an F&B Associate. It was his very first flight abroad… his first real step into the global hospitality industry. Suddenly, he found himself working with colleagues from different countries, interacting with guests from around the world, mastering the rhythm and grace of a luxury resort environment.

The experience changed him.

It gave him confidence.

It helped him realize he belongs on a global stage.

And just when Ravi thought things couldn’t get better — they did.

His dedication was noticed by the General Manager, Mr. Rudy Perytambi, who soon extended a job offer to Ravi, inviting him to return not as a student, but as a hospitality professional.

It was a moment that validated every challenge he overcame —

a moment that said “Your journey has only just begun.”

Grateful and grounded, he credits this milestone to the visionary leadership of Chairman Sir, Dr. Suborno Bose and Director Ma’am, Ms. Sanjukta Bose, whose belief in global hospitality education has empowered countless young careers like his.

Ravi’s story is proof that hospitality isn’t just a career —

it’s a lifestyle of learning, adapting, and elevating oneself every single day.

He now stands ready to embrace Mauritius once again — stronger, skilled, and determined to keep moving upward.

When asked what keeps him motivated, he shares a simple yet powerful belief:

“If opportunities don’t knock, build the door.

Dream fearlessly. Work relentlessly. Achieve globally.”

With mentors who guided him and a future waiting for him beyond the ocean, Ravi knows one thing for certain — he is only getting started.
